Edward Strom was born on December 19, 1899 at Stockholm, Wisconsin.
Ethel Carlson was born near Sherwood, North Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Alma Carlson, who were Swedish immigrants. Ethel attended the Eden Valley Consolidated School, which was the first consolidated school in North Dakota. She graduated from Sherwood High School and Minot College, and then spent several years teaching.
Ed and Ethel were married in 1933. They lived in Barnes County for four years before moving to Stutsman County, buying a farm three miles east of Ypsilanti in 1943, where they still were in 1982, at the time that the Ypsilanti Community Centennial Book was published.
They had one daughter, Shirley, who attended grade school in Manns and Ypsilanti townships, graduating from Jamestown High School, and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota. She married Harry Heimbigner in 1957.
