Frank Van Dyke was born in Boyden, Iowa. At the age of two, in 1918, he came to Meadow Lake Township, in the Ypsilanti, North Dakota area, with his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Van Dyke.
In 1940, Frank married Henrietta DeVries, who was the daughter of Jacob S. DeVries of Marion, ND. They were married on her family's farm home in Ypsilanti Township, Section 35, in Stutsman County.
In the fall of 1940, they moved onto the farm, which they rented from Henrietta's father. Later, they bought the property.
Frank and Henrietta Van Dyke had three daughters: Marguerite, Lorna, and Kathryn.
