Leslie Schultz was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Schultz. His mother was the former Martha Zillmer, who was born in Germany in 1886, and came with her parents to the United States, settling near Marion, North Dakota. Following her marriage to August Schultz, they resided on a farm in Barnes County, where Les was born.
Elva Berge was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Berge, and was born and raised in the Ypsilanti community.
Leslie Schultz and Elva Berge were married in 1931. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm southeast of Ypsilanti until they moved into Ypsilanti, where they operated a hamburger stand for ten years. Then they built a new cafe, The Feed Basket, which they operated for several years before selling out to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bennett.
They had one son, Richard.
