Robert (Bob) Whitney was born and raised in the Ypsilanti, North Dakota community, graduating from Montpelier High School. His parents were Vernon and Marjorie Whitney, who farmed in the Ypsilanti area until they retired to Ypsilanti in 1971.
Bob married Freida Reiser on July 30, 1960, and they built a new home in 1963. In 1982, when the Ypsilanti Community Centennial Book was published, Bob was assistant manager at the Ypsilanti Equity Elevator, and the Whitneys were living in Ypsilanti, North Dakota.
Bob and Freida Whitney's three children were Monty Ray, Melissa Ann, and Marlen.
