Born in Nebraska, the son of Phineas and Caroline Whitney, Albert came to the Ypsilanti community with his parents when he was a young boy, and remained in the vicinity all of his life. His parents farmed northeast of Ypsilanti, Stutsman County, North Dakota. Albert Whitney farmed with his father for years.
Following his marriage to Mary Elliott, he and his wife lived in Barnes County. In their later years, they bought the Peter Gomsrud home.
