Charles came to the Jamestown-Ypsilanti area of Stutsman County, North Dakota with their parents, John and Anna Docktor, in 1902. Charles was three at the time that they came to the Ypsilanti area.
His mother, Anna, died in 1903, when Charles was only four, so he and his younger brother, George, were raised by their father.
Charles Docktor married Minnie Haskell on October 6, 1919, after which they farmed in Winfield until 1945, then moved to Ypsilanti, where Charles worked for Ed Whitney for several years, also serving as sheriff in Ypsilanti for thirty years.
Charles and Minnie Docktor had nine children: Charles Jr., Howard, Mary, Violet, Vernon, Margaret, Wayne, Joan and Jane (twins), and Minnie.
