Emil Steege was born on June 6, 1883, in Auburn, Wisconsin. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Steege, who moved to Iona, Minnesota a few years later, about 1906. Emil came to Ypsilanti, Stutsman County, North Dakota, and settled on a farm two and a half miles west of Ypsilanti.
Francis Hiob was born on March 15, 1893, in Cook County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hiob. The following year, she moved with her parents to Slayton, Minnesota, and to Ypsilanti, North Dakota in 1905, settling one and a half miles west of Ypsilanti.
Emil and Francis were married, and there were five children born to the Steege family.
