The son of Ed and Edith Whitney, Floyd was born on September 13, 1912, at Ypsilanti, North Dakota, and attended the Ypsilanti School.
In 1936, Floyd married Irma Askerman, after which he was employed by Fort Peck Dam in Montana. He and Irma returned to Ypsilanti in 1940, and farmed there until Floyd's death in 1955. They had two children, Ason Curtis and Patricia.
Following the death of her husband, Irma taught school in California, retiring in 1976.
