Leo Nicholls and Blanche Berge were both raised in the Ypsilanti community of Stutsman County, North Dakota. Leo worked on the farm, and Blanche taught in area schools for several years. She also worked in the Ypsilanti bank and Hyslops Store.
Leo and Blanche were married in 1925, after which they lived on the original Nicholls homestead until Leo passed away in 1971. At that time, Blanche sold the farm and moved to Ypsilanti for a short time, then to Central Dakota Nursing Home where she resided until her death in 1976.
