Lester is the son of Peter and Jennie Hogden, and Margaret is the daughter of Owen and Margaret Madden Sr. They were both educated in Ypsilanti and Jamestown schools.
Lester Hogden and Margaret Madden were married on November 12, 1930. Following their marriage, they farmed west of Ypsilanti for a number of years. In 1942, they moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Lester worked on an airbase for a year.
They were called back to take over the home farm when Lester's father died. After farming it for two years, his mother decided to sell the farm, so they moved to Jamestown and bought a home.
Lester worked in the N.P. roundhouse for a couple of years, then decided to go into construction. He worked for Moline Construction for twenty-six years.
After the children were all in school, Margaret decided to go to work. She worked as a nurse's aide for twenty-two years, between Trinity and Jamestown hospitals.
In 1974, they both retired, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1980, with all of their children present.
Lester and Margaret had five daughters and two sons: Jeannine, Lloyd, Marlene, David, Kathryn, Carol, and Gail.
