Peter and Anna Roorda, and their son, Dirk, came to America from the Netherlands in the late 1800s, settling first in Orange City, Iowa for a few years.
In 1903, they moved to Litchville, North Dakota, and farmed there for three years. They bought a farm in Meadow Lake Township, in Barnes County, North Dakota, Section 9-138, Range 62.
That same year, their son, Dirk, returned to Iowa and married Bessie Hofman in Orange City, Iowa, on February 22, 1906. He brought his bride to North Dakota, where they bought a farm near Ypsilanti, in Barnes County, Meadow Lake Township West ½ Section 7-138-62.
They had seven children: Peter, Tillie, Alice, Agnes, Ann, Abraham, and John.
