William Wilmart was born in 1872 in Belgium. He came to America in 1885, and to North Dakota in 1886, where his parents took out a homestead in Montpelier Township.
When his parents moved back to Belgium, William moved to a farm in the Ypsilanti community of Stutsman County, where he lived until his retirement.
In 1895, he married Mary Naze. She passed away in 1902. In 1909, William married Augusta Bowman, and she died in 1916. In 1920, he traveled to Belgium and brought his father back to live with him. His father died in 1924, and William passed away in 1958.
He had three children with his first wife, Mary: Lenore, Joseph, and George.
